On any site the establishment of an accurate control network is vital in order to ensure good and successful Dimensional control over the project.
Site control surveying is a crucial process in civil engineering, construction, and land development projects. It involves establishing a network of reference points on a site that can be used as a basis for subsequent detailed surveys, construction activities, and project management. Here are the key aspects of site control surveying:
 

Purpose of Site Control Surveying

  1. Establishing Reference Points: To create a grid or framework of known points that serve as a basis for all subsequent surveying and construction work.
  2. Ensuring Accuracy: To ensure that all measurements, layout, and construction are based on a common, accurate reference system.
  3. Coordination: To coordinate between various phases of a project and different teams, ensuring consistency in measurements and positioning.

Key Elements

  1. Control Points: These are precise locations identified and marked on the site. They can be permanent or temporary, depending on the project's duration and requirements.
  2. Benchmarks: Specific types of control points used primarily for vertical control. They are usually fixed objects with known elevation.
  3. Grid System: A coordinate system (often rectangular) established across the site to aid in the layout and positioning of structures.
