How It Works

Our Process

1. Initial Client Contact

Fill in one of the forms on our website or call our office number.

2. Pricing & Quotation

Once we have gathered all project information we will prepare your quotation ready for arrival the next business day.

3. Project Scheduling

Upon acceptance, we will provide a complete timescale this will include the survey site visit, calculating and drafting.

4. Site Visit

Site survey field work is coordinated with the client. All survey work is undertaken as per the agreed procedure.

5. Calculating & Drafting

All survey data is calculated using specific mathematical survey software. Survey reports are then precisely drafted in AutoCAD.

6. Quality Check

ur quality assurance team reviews all completed surveys for accuracy and completeness of the overall scope of work.

7. Survey Delivery

Our survey manager will send the final survey report files in AutoCAD or PDF file format via email or file share.

8. Post Survey Support

Our team is always available to discuss any questions or additional needs throughout your project life cycle.
Company Timeline

Our History

Founded in 1974, RSL Group began as Romrol Surveys Ltd and quickly became a trusted name in dimensional control and survey services. With decades of experience across oil and gas, petrochemical, shipbuilding and offshore wind, RSL has built a reputation for precision, reliability and delivering results that meet the highest industry standards.

1974

The company RSL was initially formed in 1974 under the name of Romrol Surveys ltd (RSL) by the two directors George Lormor and Fred Roberts. The name Romrol was derived from simply using the name Lormor backwards – Romrol. The companies first major Dimensional Control contract was awarded by Laing Offshore. The contract was to supply Dimensional Control survey services for the construction and fabrication of 2 offshore jackets for the BP forties field development FB &FD, this was followed by a 20,000T offshore jacket for the signal thistle field development.

1976

Chosen by Chevron to provide Dimensional control consultancy services on the fabrication of the Northern, central and Southern jackets and modules for the ninian field.

1983

RSL became permanent Dimensional Control contractor for both Davy Offshore Modules and Trafalgar House on their Teesside fabrication facilities. During this period RSL were also acting as consultants across Europe and Asia for the construction of the BP VLA field development.

1988

The company continued to provide client Dimensional control services for OXY Occidental (ELF) on the piper Bravo topsides at the Amec Wallsend facility and the offshore installation.

1995

Broadening our range of services we decided to make a slight tweak to our name. Romrol Services Limited was formed.

1998

Company Director George Lormor was replaced by Dennis White. Dennis would take up the position of Technical Director within RSL and would continue to strengthen our Dimensional Control portfolio. RSL became the main provider of Dimensional Control survey services to the recently formed Wilton Engineering ltd. A strong working relationship was created, of which still remains to this present day.

2000

Swan Hunter awarded RSL the contract to supply Dimensional Control services on the Auxiliary Landing ship for the royal navy.

2006

With the company’s portfolio of clients growing an opportunity arose to provide our services to the Petrochemical sector.  This was to be strengthened by our working alliance with SULU SABIC our working relationship is still going strong to this day with many surveys performed and completed across numerous petrochemical sites. The RSL Group was established incorporating RSL One & RSL Two.

2008

RSL were chosen by Bouygues Travaux Publics to supply a wide range of survey services from start to finish on the construction of the new Tyne Crossing.

2010

Offshore Group Newcastle (OGN) chose RSL as the main contractor to carry out all Dimensional Control survey services during the fabrication of the Forties Alpha satellite platform (FASP). RSL provided Dimensional Control and Engineering services to Heerema Hartlepool on the Sheringham shoal and BP Andrews projects.

2012

Offshore Group Newcastle (OGN) chose RSL as the main contractor to carry out all Dimensional Control survey services during the fabrication of the Forties Alpha satellite platform (FASP). RSL provided Dimensional Control and Engineering services to Heerema Hartlepool on the Sheringham shoal and BP Andrews projects.

2013

Heerema Hartlepool awarded RSL the contract to supply Dimensional Control Services for the construction of the four topsides for the cygnus gas field development on the UK Southern North Sea. This project was to include the fabrication of the process & utilities (PU) module, Wellhead module and compression module.

2016

Supplying Dimensional control survey services to Heerema Hartlepool on the Galloper Windfarm Substation Platform.

2017

With major Oil & Gas companies looking to invest in offshore wind, it was imperative that RSL kept up with the trend. We tailored our Dimensional Control Survey services to assist fabrication companies throughout all stages of offshore wind fabrication. We also invested in new equipment that allowed us to undertake flange verification and flange flatness surveys for offshore transition piece flanges. Giving our offshore wind clients an all-round survey package.  RSL were awarded their first offshore wind project by Smulders Projects UK. The Beatrice offshore project was for the fabrication of 46 offshore wind turbine jackets at the Smulders Newcastle yard.

2019

Smulders Projects UK awarded RSL two Dimensional Control contracts for both the Triton knoll Offshore wind Transition pieces and the Moray East offshore windfarm jackets 55 offshore jackets were built at the Smulders Newcastle yard. 2019 was also the year that RSL welcomed Scott Roberts on board as a company Director.  After working for RSL for 14 years Scott was appointed as Operations director and looks after all of the day to day running of all the company’s activities. RSL were named as the "Best Dimensional Control & Survey Provider 2019" by the SME news, UK Enterprise awards.

2020

An award-winning year! RSL winners of “Survey company of the Year” in the North England Prestige Awards 2020/2021.

“The judges commend RSL for their contribution to the renewable energy sector, bringing new ideas to fruition on a constantly evolving industry”.

2022

Smulders Projects UK selected RSL to provide comprehensive dimensional control survey services throughout the entire project lifecycle of the Moray West Offshore Transformer Modules. RSL had also been chosen as the authorized survey company of choice for the Sabic Teesside Improvement Project.

2023

As the leading provider of offshore wind measurement, RSL was chosen for our largest flange verification project to date. GE Vernova selected RSL to deliver our flange verification services for Dogger Bank, the world's largest offshore wind farm project.
