Galloper Windfarm Substation Platform

Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) was awarded from Petrofac an AFC the contract for fabricating the substation platform for Galloper Wind Farm Limited (GWFL).

Heerema Hartlepool fabricated the unmanned offshore substation platform. The project engineering and procurement were undertaken by Petrofac as part of the GE Petrofac Consortium.

The Galloper Offshore Wind Farm is an extension to the Greater Gabbard Wind Farm, but is being developed as an entirely separate entity. In 2008, the Greater Gabbard topsides transformer platform was Heerema Hartlepool’s first EPC project in the offshore wind energy sector. The Galloper substation platform connects turbine generators to a single Offshore Substation Platform (OSP) by subsea array cables. The OSP is linked to the onshore transition joint bay near Sizewell by two subsea export cables. The offshore site is located within the outer Thames Estuary, 27 kilometres off the Suffolk coast with water depths of 27 to 39 metres.

Heerema Hartlepool chose RSL to provide Dimensional control and survey assistance throughout the project. Dimensional control survey teams from RSL worked across all shifts to ensure that Heerema had 100%-Dimensional control cover to assist the Heerema project and fabrication teams.
